Does Satan Care About Your Politics? (pg.2)

Beneath the surface, there are multiplied thousands of individuals who ARE intelligent. They ARE perceptive. And they know what’s going on in the world. They know that the fundamentalists will destroy the planet if they’re not taken down. And yet they don’t come forward. They don’t get involved. They live their lives by trying to keep their blinders on and by focusing on the tasks in front of them; tasks made more difficult and often impossible by the system itself; the tasks of basic, everyday living. Indeed the system in America is so corrupted and ineffectual sociologically and economically that the basic task for the majority is coming down to that of survival itself.

The only reason America is still so mired in conservative self-destruction is that their side is pro-active and our side, relatively speaking, is not. This is nothing new. Progressives have always been a little on the mellow side. But we’ve come to a place where that’s not acceptable any more. FreakNation has got to mobilize and get involved. If we do, our numbers will constitute the most powerful social and political entity in America by an overwhelming margin. We already know that if all the Freaks in this country simply got out and voted, we’d be more than half-way to sanity, but sadly, far too many of those who could make a difference choose to stay home and watch their lives being destroyed before their very eyes on cable news. Nothing changes until our actions change. Involvement is the royal road to progress; to the end of fundamentalism, and to the advent of a sane and progressive society in which people can finally achieve their highest potential.

There are, however, many serious progressives and even avowed Satanists who disagree with the idea of working within the system. They argue that Satan isn’t interested in the system, and that his followers should go on building their separate culture outside of it. Fuck the Establishment, just ignore it as much as possible. And if you are going to take action, take that action as an outlaw, not as an insider. With regard to this approach, witness the methods employed by certain Scandanavian Death Metal bands in their efforts to jump-start the extermination of Christianity. Adhering to an aggressive ‘hands-on methodology,’ Black Metal band members and some of their followers initiated a campaign to burn the country’s churches to the ground. Not exactly what you’d call the subtle approach. And the idea actually caught on for a while. More than 30 churches in Norway were torched and the burnings became headline news stories virtually overnight. Problem was, the burnings received little support from other Satanic groups, and no less than the Big Daddy of them all, The High Priest of The Church of Satan, Magus Peter H. Gilmore denounced them in the strongest possible terms. Why? You’d have thought that, at the very least, the radicals on the Progressive Left would have offered some measure of endorsement. They were silent. And what of Gilmore? This revered Satanist is the successor to Anton LaVey himself, and his statement regarding the church burnings could easily have come directly from the mouth of Pat Robertson without changing so much as a word. The reason, folks, is simple. Satan cares about our politics. Sound politics are essential to the cause of eradicating fundamentalism because in order to pull it off, we need legitimacy.
